About
What we believe about small-business software.
Most small organizations don’t need a bigger platform. They need a system that fits.
Our philosophy
Right-sized software for the way small teams actually work.
The software industry has spent years telling small businesses and nonprofits that they need the same tools as the Fortune 500 — only cheaper, only slower, only bolted onto eleven other tools, and only after a six-month implementation. It doesn’t work.
What actually works is building the right-sized system for the way a specific team operates. That’s the work we do.
Why this approach works
Workflow understanding plus database thinking.
There’s no shortage of software. What’s missing, for most small organizations, is the combination of:
- Someone who takes the time to understand the workflow — before opening a code editor.
- Database thinking applied to real-world operations — not just another tab in a spreadsheet.
- Clean, maintainable software built to the scope of the problem — no enterprise overhead you’ll never use.
- Plain-language communication throughout — from the first call to the last handoff.
That combination is how a workflow goes from fragile to reliable — without a six-figure platform and without betting the organization on a long implementation.
Our principles
Four ideas that shape every project.
Practical over flashy.
Boring software that works beats clever software that doesn’t.
Clarity over complexity.
If a feature can’t be explained in plain English, it probably shouldn’t ship.
Durable over disposable.
We build systems that can be maintained and extended, not systems that have to be rebuilt in two years.
Tailored over template.
Every organization has a real workflow. We design around yours.
The founder
Who you’ll actually work with.
Zach Bagwell
Founder · Systems analyst
Valor Data Systems was founded by Zach Bagwell, who spent years watching small organizations struggle with spreadsheet sprawl and decided to do something about it. He combines a systems-analyst background with hands-on software implementation — enough data discipline to design something that lasts, and enough operational empathy to build something a team will actually use.
What to expect
Working with us.
- Clear scope before any build begins
- Written documentation of your system at handoff
- No lock-in to proprietary tools you don’t own
- Direct communication, not a reseller’s support queue
